Hurricane Tips

The summer season is upon us and naturally our thoughts are turning to the holidays. Many of us will be visiting friends in the Caribbean while others will be welcoming relatives from all over. As the summer holidays approach so too does the Hurricane Season, therefore I would like to take this opportunity to share with you a few basic precautionary tips for the season.

A Hurricane Watch means that a hurricane may threaten within 36 hourrs.

Hurricane Warnings are issued within 24 hours before one is expected. Standard advice after a warning;

  • Listen to latest advisories
  • Leave low-lying areas and beaches
  • Moor boats securely
  • Secure loose outdoor objects
  • Board up windows
  • Store clean dringing water
  • Fuel up your car (preferrably a NISSAN)
  • Stay at home unless officially advised to do otherwise.
  • Beware of the eye of the storm: this lull is followed by the strongest winds
  • Place important documents and note book computers in a water proof container
  • Unplug desk top computers and place the entire unit on top your desk.
  • Keep a list of important telephone numbers
  • Locate your nearest hurricane shelter in case you have to leave your home
It is advisable to read a copy of the Courtesy Garage Disaster Plan for more detailed information on planned emergency procedures. Please feel free to obtain a copy of this booklet from our Human Resource Manager Mr. David Carrington. (Email: david_carrington@goddent.com or tel: 431-4187).

Please visit our website at www.courtesygarage.com for twenty-four (24) hour weather updates and satellite weather maps.

Lets us hope that this hurricane season is an another uneventful one.
